Moving from NC to NY......my job is in Brooklyn, where should I live? - moving to nc

I make a move from NC to Brooklyn in a few weeks working for JPMorganChase 4 Metrotech (anywhere). I do not know shit from NY, so I hope I can get some opinions on the formation of an ideal location to call home. I am not aware of making NY traffic, public transportation, time travel or any other element that makes this area unique, so ask for specific suggestions. I am a single African American and my salary is $ 55,000 per year ...... I really do not know enough as far as to take place in New York, North Carolina. I've heard that the income, along with everything else, it is expensive. I know that Manhattan is too expensive, so I do not envisage.
